Meet Chase & Demi

I met Chase on Monday, January 20th, 2020. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Chase was standing outside the local Walgreens on the corner of Union and Montrose and tried to get me to stop so he could rap for me and earn a few bucks. I gave him the standard “Sorry man, not tonight.” As I stepped through the entrance door, I heard him rhyme a few lines about Swans Nest Yoga - he had caught the logo on the back of my jacket. I bought a headphone jack, got $20 in cash back from Walgreens, and did what I felt was right. I introduced myself to Chase, learned a bit of his story, bought him a hot sandwich, and gave him the $20 he needed for a room that night.

Chase (Instagram “@chase_mill”) has an infectious, wise and loving spirit. He’s written for some big names and he’s cultivated a massive following from his talent. Unfortunately he hasn’t been able to make any money in the cutthroat music industry and he’s currently sleeping on trains in the city. Sometimes he can get a room for a night when he makes enough money by entertaining people with his freestyling on the street.

Chase and Demi (who is currently staying in a shelter in Manhattan) have cleaned The Nest multiple times over the last three weeks and have done an amazing job. I can pay them for their work, but it’s not nearly enough to get some stable housing for a couple months. The cost of a room is $300 / month and Chase can maybe get a discount on two months if he pays upfront. I’m helping Chase and Demi get secure housing for the next couple months so they can get some piece of mind and not have to sleep on the street.

There is a $5 suggested donation for our launch party on 2/15 and students can donate in the jar at Swans Nest at anytime over the next few weeks. People can also Venmo me at “Sean-Moore-23”.

I’ll keep everyone posted on our progress and hopefully you’ll get to meet Chase in person soon.

Thanks very much, let’s help Chase and Demi get some housing!

So’ham Hamsah,

Sean
